If it works, why change it?

Long time ago in galaxy far far away I used to have Subaru Impreza GL. I have learnt driving Colin McRae style. Back then, it was a best tire for me. But you grow, learn and adapt your car.

You build up on your previous success. It somehow worked on Hilda HR I with stock suspension. No surprise, under-damped stock suspension, worn arm bushes and dampers – EVERYTHING WORKS ON STOCK SUSPENSION.

It stopped to work for me with rally suspension….years of karting passed by and my high standards never ceased to go higher. Sometimes, it is hell to have dynamic mind and always learn.

Skoda Octavia 1Z3 with 2.0TDi is front heavy beast. As you can see from above by image, tires are unevenly worn even on stock suspension. Stock Octavia TDi has got camber up to -1° and no LSD. It means uneven tire wear even with normal driving.

Tire width 225 mm with 1° angle tilt means 3.93 mm high wedge. As you can see in image below by your tire is almost as new outside but inside is already worn by at least three millimeters.

Of course, tire deforms and twists under load because there is no sidewall reinforcements. It has got radial slots that ensure decent wet performance.

On sport suspension it always whines/screams under load…it is usually sign of sliding and driver should watch out because he is at the limit. Surprisingly it sticks to road despite strong sound effects.
