Stock Skoda Fabia I (6Y) 1.4TDi PD(59kW), year 2008 – 225k km on ODO meter, sold to my parents with almost 300k km on ODO.
Every stock car has following limits:
- driver
- brakes
- suspension
Most of limits were resolved by following upgrades:
- racing FW – Hajes Inside NM
- brake pads ATE Ceramic
- brake discs ATE PowerDisc (front)
- suspension Weitec Ultra GT
- arm bushes Powerflex
- universal compromise Continetal WinterContact TS800
Most people can’t drive these cars – for some reasons common driver thinks every car has got full power and torque at idle revs. It is low volume, high revs engine. Turbo starts to kick at 2200 revs and that’s it – you have to push it way above 3000 revs to get it run optimally (it all depends how quickly can you shift gears).
I finally got decent setup. Suspension is visible improvement over comfort stock suspension but way too soft for sport suspension. It is somewhere between stock and sport suspension.
Powerflex polyurethane bushes is must – soft rubber stock suspension bushes are worn in no time (in my case)
I finally got decent grip but brake system was insufficient – I was boiling brake fluid very often. My last tests showed 270 – 390 deg C on braked discs/pads. It was just short hillclimb and back.
You can’t expect miracles from car conforming following specifications WSCC (Women Shopping Cart Championship) and GPC (Grand Parents Championship). There is very little upgrades available. Most importantly, it’s not worthy to invest in a family car – it will always be just a family car !!!
I really liked my car – it was great on flat roads of lowlands. But it gotta go because I moved into mountains again and this car, despite light and agile, has no torque and power for steep alpine roads.
Future improvements:
- racing brake fluid
- brake cooling
- anti-roll bars
